The beautiful area where the holiday gites are located derives much of its fame from the large number of historically interesting buildings and towns that are sited in the area.
For hundreds of years it was the region where the French aristocracy would come to relax and replenish energy reserves that were generally depleted by constant warring with the English.
The Loire area was selected for the fact that the extensive forests provided excellent hunting. To guarantee their comfort while in the area, they constructed opulent chateaux many of which are still standing and can be visited today.
The river itself has now been designated a world heritage site - a testament to the importance placed on the conservation of the wetland habitat which borders the longest river in France.
